Palpitations|| MSAP Week 3
Hit a high score at 290 Anki cards this week. I used Anki in the past, but this seems like a lot. Cardio, GI, and genetics kicked my butt this week but it didn’t feel as strenuous as last week. Maybe because it ended in boba? Oh, how I’m going to miss boba.
Life This Week:
Back to work! 4 more weeks left as a scribe. We’ve begun to train my replacement. It feels bittersweet as I’m feeling like I’ve finally nestled into a place on the team. I knew it wasn’t for forever and I’m excited to move on, but I have a hard time saying goodbye. I do look forward to waking up after the sun and not requiring a nap to function. I scribe for physicians on the East Coast so their 8AM start times equates to my 5AM start.
I plan on bringing my dog, Kalbi so we can’t stay in the campus dorms. I’m in this odd predicament where I have to make a deposit for an apartment before I start. I visited an apartment for which I put a deposit down for when I was in Grenada last week. It was not it. I had to climb through literally jungle up on a hill to get to it. The lady showing me the apartment said the last tenant used to collect cockroaches for pets, but hey he left his old textbooks. After I went home, I realized yeah no I’m okay. I found a new apartment through Facebook groups. It is very close to campus (based on google maps)! I’m excited for Kalbi (my sassy pug) because it has a massive yard for him to run around. With the approach of the holidays and my leave, it feels like potatoes are flying around my head. I think I may need to resume using a planner.
MSAP This Week:
I fell off the ambitious study schedule around Wednesday (not surprised). Thursday, I started to feel run down. I pushed through but once I really start medical school, I’ll have to find a way to avoid the quick burnout.
I tried some new study techniques were which helpful! Pre-studying which I define as researching answers to the learning objectives helped immensely. It helped me see what I know and what I don’t know. I discovered I need when listening to lectures I can’t do anything else. If I start writing while watching, then my mind quickly wanders around.
I also tried some pictorial mnemonics which were fun and helpful. It worked for a couple of pictorials, but I can’t imagine doing the hundreds of them out there. For example, for Lynch Syndrome, the picture was a chicken eating lunchables on a mismatched blanket next to a pick-up truck with mulch in the back. Hopefully, I never forget that sassy chicken.
The quiz also went better! Only 1 quiz and the final left.
We’ve got a week off from learning content for the holidays, but I think I’ll continue to review and maybe look up some quizlets for Week 4. Have a great Thanksgiving friends!
Warmly, Rainee
